Ukrainian applicants for visa – sponsored by named people in UK

April 5, 2022 | xpath.global

Phase One of the scheme opened on 18 March for visa applications from Ukrainian applicants who have named people in the UK willing to sponsor them. Either the Ukrainian applicants or the sponsor can complete the application. One application is required per individual coming to the UK.

Visas are already being issued.

This route allows Ukrainian applicants and their immediate family members (that have no ties to the UK) to come for at least 6 months and up to 3 years.

The UK government is urging the British public to help out and offer their homes or provide living arrangements for Ukrainian nationals. Ukrainians who were living in Ukraine prior to 1st January 2022 are eligible for this visa route.

Sponsors will be paid a “thank you” payment of £350 monthly per household. In addition, eligibility, safeguarding, and security checks will be made on them to ensure they are continuing to house the individuals and that the living conditions are adequate.

Sponsors will not be required to provide food or other support to visa holders, however, they can do if they would like to. This will be provided by the local authority.

To summarize – applications can be made from 18th March 2022 from outside of the UK for free. A simple form will need to be completed outlining your and your sponsor’s details. As part of the process security checks will be made on you and your sponsor and fingerprints will be taken.

Ukrainians coming to the UK under this visa route will be able to claim benefits and take up work in the UK.
