The UK Government has unveiled a financial incentive package for high-growth businesses recruiting international talent — including a visa fee reimbursement scheme worth up to £25,000 per year per employer and a fast-tracked sponsor licence route cutting processing from eight weeks to ten working days. The announcement was made on July 13, 2026 by Business Secretary Peter Kyle during London Tech Week.
What the Scheme Offers
The Visa Fees Reimbursement Scheme for Scale-Ups (VFRS4SU) reimburses eligible employers up to £5,000 per international hire, capped at £25,000 per year, for staff recruited under the Skilled Worker, Global Talent, or Scale-Up visa routes.
To qualify, a business must:
- Operate in Clean Energy, Life Sciences, or Digital and Technologies
- Have demonstrated 20%+ annualised growth over three consecutive years
- Apply before March 1, 2027 — or sooner, as the fund is finite and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis
Alongside the reimbursement scheme, the Government introduced:
- A bespoke cross-government concierge service to help scale-ups navigate barriers to international hiring
- An Office for Investment fast-track referral route reducing UK Expansion Worker sponsor licence processing from eight weeks to approximately ten working days for qualifying inward-investment companies
Why This Is Significant
The scheme is one of the most direct financial incentives the UK has offered employers for international hiring since the post-Brexit immigration system launched. For eligible companies, £25,000 per year represents a meaningful offset against sponsor licence costs, visa fees, and compliance overhead — particularly for early-stage scale-ups where every hire is material.
The fast-track sponsor licence route is equally significant. An eight-week licence wait has historically been a material obstacle to closing international hires quickly. Cutting that to ten working days for qualifying companies effectively removes one of the most common bottlenecks in the UK hiring process.
