According to Wendy Smith, Chief Executive of the South Canterbury Chamber, employers in need are soon to be welcomed with a new visa system which aims to encourage them in their efforts of bringing more short-term workers.

The fact that six visa categories have been replaced by a single temporary work visa sets up the business sector for significant benefits.

Districts such as Mackenzie and Timaru faced with impactful challenges related to the unemployment have been the main targets of the legal updates, along with various economic sectors such as wool, meat, horticulture, seafood and dairy, which are supported mainly by the cooperation of foreign workers.

The changes include the step-by-step removal of the occupational classification system in the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations Code, in order to simplify the new visa procedure.

The updated system will require accreditation for the employers intending to hire foreign workforce.

The entire visa application process will imply employers, jobs and worker examinations, as well as sectoral consents and a simple salary threshold aligned to median wages.Employers in need are soon to be welcomed with a new visa system which aims to encourage them in their efforts of bringing more short-term workers.
