Invasion of Ukraine: US intelligence state Russian forces have orders to proceed

US intelligence has obtained information that Russian military leaders have received orders to proceed with an invasion of Ukraine. David Martin, CBS’s national security correspondent, shared this development during an appearance on “Face the Nation.” He stated, “They’re doing everything that American commanders would do once they got the order to proceed.” This intelligence suggests that Russian troops are not only positioning themselves closer to the border but that commanders are making specific plans for maneuvers on the battlefield.

According to Martin, “The intelligence says that Russian troops have actually received orders now to proceed with the Ukraine invasion. So not only are they moving up closer and closer to the border and into these attack positions, but the commanders on the ground are making specific plans for how they would maneuver in their sector of the battlefield.” This escalation points to an imminent threat, as Russian forces prepare for potential conflict.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken echoed these concerns during his appearance on “Face the Nation,” where he confirmed President Biden’s statements about the situation. Speaking with anchor Margaret Brennan, Blinken said that Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to be “going forward” with the invasion plans. Blinken noted, “Everything we’re seeing tells us that the decision we believe President Putin has made to invade is moving forward.” He highlighted recent provocations and the extension of joint Russian-Belarusian military drills, which had initially been scheduled to conclude on Sunday.

These developments underscore the gravity of the situation in Eastern Europe, where tensions have been mounting. The international community is closely monitoring the actions of Russian forces and their implications for Ukraine’s sovereignty and regional stability. As diplomatic efforts continue, the potential for conflict remains a significant concern, with US intelligence suggesting that an invasion from Russia could be imminent.
