After fresh statistics revealed that 96 percent of specialist occupation visas were approved in Fiscal Year (FY) 2021, denial rates for US H1B visas have dropped to an all-time low. According to the statistics, the H1B visa rejection rate has plummeted to an astounding 4%, according to the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP), a policy research organization based in Arlington.
The decrease reflects an increase in H1B visa approval rates. In FY 2020, 13 percent of H1B applications were denied, down to 21 percent in 2019 and 24 percent a year earlier.
Despite a dramatic decrease in rejection rates, employers and highly skilled foreign nationals continue to encounter numerous challenges. Employers filed almost 300,000 H1B registrations in FY 2022, but only 85,000 were available under the yearly cap.
Shortages of workers
Despite lower H1B visa refusal rates, severe labor shortages exist in critical economic areas in the United States.
Suzanne Clark, the CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce, recently stated that increased immigration to the US is needed to reduce inflation and address labor shortages in the country.
